12 string Dekley, for Michael Douglas

Post by Lane Gray »

I saw your comment in an unrelated thread, and I thought I'd draw up what I'd do with a 5x4, although with it being a 12, my P5 might be superfluous.

DAMMIT. I can't figure out how to get a postable url either from photobucket or Facebook, and I've forgotten how to put them up to the forum.
Here's the Facebook url

I kept the old-school P4 on your P1: that Maj7, especially on String 10, is just sweet.
The traditional P5 is moved to a knee (LKR) to prevent the double-footing on 5&7
LKL is a "reverse P6," and is fairly common
My proposed P5 might be superfluous on your 12 string, as I use it in conjunction with P5/LKR to make the D9th into an A6, with the high 5 missing on a 10-string with the 1st string D. But then it turns the Am7 into A7, so it's handy.
The RKL is something I got from Mike Auldridge, my friend and Dobro/steel teacher. When I asked him why it was asymmetrical, he said "trust me, it looks weird, but you'll find you won't miss a G on top, and you won't often miss the G# on bottom. You won't use them together, but you'll find each of them useful." And he's been right so far. RIP, Mike.
