Post by Lyle Bradford »

when i turn my computer on it beeps twice and says i have an adress conflict at 38h or something like that and then it says hit F1 to continue or F2 to go to setup. how can i resolve this and get it to boot up without seeing this and having to hit F1 every time i use it. I am running windows 95.

Most likely the BIOS (the intial system setup for the I/O) sees a conflict between two devices. Have you added or removed any hardware lately, such as a serial or parallel port card, etc?? If so that is the problem. You can go into the setup (F2) and it may show you what device or address is the problem. In those cases you may be able to change the address of one of the devices so they do not conflict.

One word of caution, the BIOS is critical to the PC operating and if you're not comfortable doing it yourself, it's worth the $$ to take it to a qualified tech.

If you still have the original manual for the PC, many manufacturers list the original BIOS settings and you can compare what you have with the original settings, or have them on their web site.
